Happy Friday Friends!! I hope you all had a lovely week so far. I’m really looking forward to the weekend. The weather is going to be super wacky again here in Philly. Just this week we had a two hour delay at school due to ice and snow. Now, we are looking at temps in the 50’s for Saturday and Sunday!!! Crazy, right??? B and I are so pumped to cheer on our Philadelphia Eagles in the playoffs!! Crossing fingers that they win and make it to the Super Bowl, speaking of the Super Bowl….did you catch my post about cute gear to rock for your Super Bowl Sunday parties??? Now, onto something I am so excited to share!! I couldn’t wait to share this post today, because I feel so strongly about its value. Today, we talk about meditation and how to incorporate it into your day. If you never attempted meditation…no worries, I’ve gotcha covered! Read on to find out how to start your practice and maintain it!!

So, what is meditation and why the heck should I even bother doing it???

Meditation isMeditation is the process of quieting the mind in order to spend time in thought for relaxation or religious/spiritual purposes.


There are so, so, many benefits to meditation! These are a few of my absolute faves!!

  • Reduces stress
  • Improves concentration
  • Promotes a healthy lifestyle
  • Can increase happiness and fosters a positive outlook
  • Slows the aging process (hello, yes please!!!!)
  • Boosts cardiovascular and immune health
  • Helps to improve self-awareness
  • Enhances self-esteem
  • Helps regulate mood and anxiety

Okay great….so how the heck do I do it???? Here are some tips for beginners!

First let me say…do not get discouraged if meditation does not come easily at first. For some, it can come easily and naturally. For others, it may take time to develop and work at the practice for it to become a natural process.

Step One: Decide on a time. You can meditate at any time you choose, but I find it very empowering to meditate first thing in the morning before my husband wakes up and the house is completely silent. It helps me to set my intentions for the day and to start my day in a powerful and positive way.

Step Two: Choose a spot! I find it beneficial to have a specific spot for meditation. It can be a chair, a corner of a room, on a pillow…anything that feels comfortable to you.

Step Three: Set the stage. I love to diffuse essential oils while I meditate. I also fill the space with things I love like fresh flowers and my favorite candle. The goal is to meditate in space that fills you with joy and keeps you calm. So, looking at a pile of dirty clothes or sink full of dishes wouldn’t be an ideal spot for meditation.

Step Four: The actual practice. Once you get the first step in order, it’s time to start! As I said above, if you have never done this before, it can seem overwhelming and hard to do. My best advice for this is to start off with “Guided Meditation”. I’ve link some of my fave guided meditation videos below. If that doesn’t work for you, you can always try signing up for a mediation class.


A few tips for starting out:

  1. Start off small. You don’t need to start off meditating for 20 minutes at a pop. Try just 5 minutes and then build up from there.
  2. Find a focus. Choose from one of the below. Remember, ANY of these work…it is your personal preference!
  • Sound: Repeat a mantra, phrase or other sound.
  • Visualize: Picture an object with eyes closed, such as a lotus flower, a beautiful beach, or the energy points in the body (chakras).
  • Gaze: Look at an actual object with eyes open. It could be a candle flickering,  a beautiful vase of flowers or a favorite picture
  • Breathe: Observe your breath and what it feels like and the sensation as it travels in and out of your body.
